Bomb threat on Air India Toronto-Delhi flight; aircraft lands safely in Delhi
PTC Web Desk: Authorities received a bomb threat on Thursday for Air India’s Toronto-Delhi flight (AI188), prompting immediate security action. The flight, operated with a Boeing 777 aircraft, landed safely at the Indira Gandhi International Airport around 3:40 pm, according to official sources.
Early in the morning, the Delhi Police received a message claiming that a bomb had been placed on flight AI188. Following the alert, a Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) was convened at the Delhi airport. After a detailed evaluation, the threat was classified as “non-specific.”
An Air India spokesperson confirmed that a security warning was received during the flight’s cruise from Toronto to Delhi. “The on-board crew carried out all standard security protocols, prioritising passenger safety and security. The aircraft landed safely in Delhi and has been parked for mandatory checks by airport security authorities,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
All passengers and crew members disembarked safely, and no untoward incident was reported.
The total flight duration was just over 15 hours, according to data from flight-tracking portal Flightradar24. Meanwhile, heightened security measures remain in effect across Indian airports, including mandatory secondary ladder-point checks, following the recent blast incident in Delhi.
