'I snatched gas canister away…': Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla narrates Lok Sabha security breach incident

Lok Sabha security breach: On the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack, two people jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery and opened canisters that emitted yellow-colored smoke, causing panic among the MPs.

The incident was narrated by Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla, who caught hold of the two men who jumped down the visitors' gallery into the House.

“...He had something in his hand which was emitting yellow-coloured smoke. I snatched it away and continued throwing it outside...This is a major security breach," Congress MP said.

Gurjeet Singh Aujla is a member of the Indian National Congress and the current Member of Parliament for Amritsar in Punjab.

According to BSP MP Ram Shiromani Verma, security personnel discovered an Aadhaar card with a Lucknow address on one of the two intruders. He described the incident as the entire parliament being covered in smoke after one of the men opened a canister emitting yellow smoke.

"All MPs beat him up and caught him and handed him to the security," he said, adding, "When we caught hold of one of them, he took out something from his shoe, emanating smoke. Later the second person was also caught."

Speaking over the massive security breach, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla said, "Both of them have been nabbed and the materials with them have also been seized. The two people outside the Parliament have also been arrested by Police..."

Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla also said, "A thorough investigation of the incident that took place during zero hour is being done. Essential instructions have also been given to Delhi Police. In the primary investigation, it has been found that it was just a smoke and there is no need to worry about the smoke..."

Meanwhile, Delhi Police have ruled out a terror attack and a thorough probe is underway.
