Delhi Red Fort car blast case: UP ATS arrests Kanpur cardiologist Dr Arif for alleged links with Dr Shaheen’s terror network

PTC Web Desk: Following the Delhi Red Fort car blast, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has intensified its operations and detained Dr Mohammad Arif (32), a cardiologist working at the Heart Disease Institute in Kanpur. Arif, a native of Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir, was taken into custody from his residence Thursday morning for alleged links with Dr Shaheen Shahid and her brother Parvez, both suspected of involvement in the terror network behind the Delhi blast.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Dr Arif had been in contact with Shaheen and Parvez for a long time and may have been involved in activities deemed anti-national. The ATS seized his laptop and mobile phone, reportedly finding suspicious data during the forensic scan. Arif has been taken to Delhi, where he will be interrogated alongside other suspects arrested in connection with the blast.

Sources say the ATS crackdown in Kanpur may lead to the exposure of a wider network linked to Dr Shaheen. Currently, the Cardiology Department at the institute has seven students from Jammu and Kashmir pursuing their Doctorate in Medicine (DM) degrees, and investigators are verifying possible connections.
