EC requests details from Jairam Ramesh on alleged calls by Amit Shah to 150 DMs

PTC News Desk: Congress politician Jairam Ramesh has been contacted by the Election Commission of India (EC) to provide more information about his claims that Union home minister Amit Shah called 150 district magistrates a few days prior to the vote counting.

During elections, district magistrates and collectors serve as their respective districts' returning officials.

According to the Commission, no district magistrate has yet to report becoming the victim of inappropriate influence. But considering the seriousness of the situation, the poll organization insisted on getting specifics so that it might be addressed in the "larger public interest."

"Every RO (Returning Officer) has a sacred duty to count votes, and public statements made by a senior, responsible, and experienced leader tend to raise doubts. As such, they should be addressed in the interest of the general public," the letter said.

"EC had requested details and information from Jairam Ramesh of 150 DMs to whom Amit Shah has influenced, as alleged by Ramesh and which he believes to be true, and had thus made these allegations, even though no DM has reported any undue influence," the statement continued.

Jairam Ramesh, the general secretary of the Congress responsible for communications, claimed on Saturday that Amit Shah has been engaging in "blatant and brazen" intimidation by phoning district magistrates and collectors.

The departing home minister has started contacting collectors and DMs. He has spoken with 150 of them thus far. He said on X, "This is blatant and brazen intimidation, demonstrating the desperation of the BJP."

"Let it be very clear: the will of the people shall prevail, and on June 4th, Mr. Modi, Mr. Shah, and the BJP will exit, and the INDIA Janbandhan will be victorious," he said.
