Garlic prices go all-time high; farmers install CCTV cameras in their fields

PTC News Desk: In the wake of rising garlic prices in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara, farmers have devised new methods to protect the produce by installing CCTV cameras in the fields.

Garlic prices have skyrocketed in the market, reaching an all-time high of 400 to 500 rupees per kilogramme, leaving farmers torn between joy and distress.

Faced with rising garlic prices, farmers in Badnoor are using unconventional methods to protect their lucrative crops. These farmers decided to install CCTV cameras in their fields after witnessing thefts.

Rahul Deshmukh, a garlic cultivator and resident of Badnoor village in Mohkhed, stressed the importance of CCTV cameras.

"Earlier, a thief had stolen 8 to 10 kg of garlic from the field and was caught by the police later on, whereas, after this incident, I am protecting my field by installing CCTV cameras," he told reporters.

Rahul Deshmukh, who invested 25 lakh rupees in cultivating garlic across 13 acres, has now earned nearly 1 crore rupees from selling garlic in the market. "3 cameras have been installed to monitor garlic crop grown in 4 acres," he went on to say.

According to the farmers, while the annual price of garlic typically reaches up to Rs 80 per kilogramme, this season has seen a significant increase, exceeding Rs 300 per kilogramme. As a result, they have made significant profits, and this is the first time garlic prices have risen so dramatically.

The price of garlic is at an all-time high.
