Kanjhawala death: Delhi police file 800 page chargesheet against seven accused

New Delhi, April 1: Delhi police on Saturday filed a charge sheet against seven accused in the Kanjhawala hit and drag case in Rohini Court and invoked the murder section against the four accused.

If the accused is found guilty, this section contains provisions for the death penalty or imprisonment for life.

The charge was filed before Metropolitan Magistrate Sanya Dalal's court.

On April 13, the court placed the case on the charge sheet for consideration.

In the charge sheet, the Delhi police have named 117 witnesses.

In view of the deceased's modesty, the special public prosecutor (SPP) for Delhi Police, Atul Shrivastava, sought that the court does not provide sensitive images of the victim to the accused persons.

In connection with the case, seven people were arrested, two of whom were eventually given bail.

On January 1, Manoj Mittal, Deepak Khanna, Amit Khanna, Krishan, and Mithun were arrested. Following interrogation, they were placed in judicial custody.

Afterwards, the other two accused, Ashutosh and Ankush, were arrested.

The investigating officer will present the chargesheet to Sanya Dalal, the metropolitan magistrate.

The victim was dragged 13 kilometres under a car on the Shani Bazar Road in a shocking incident. The accused drove around in the car for two hours, according to Delhi police, who sought the accused's remand.

CCTV footage and Call Detail Record (CDR) information collected during the inquiry could be key evidence disclosed in the chargesheet.

The CCTV footage was allegedly taken from a petrol pump and a restaurant where the accused took food.
