Lucknow, September 1: In a horrifying incident, a young girl was brutally stabbed 16 times after reportedly resisting a rape attempt in the PGI Kotwali area of Lucknow, as confirmed by local police on Friday.
The distressing event unfolded when the victim, returning from her coaching class on a scooty, was accosted by a young man who attempted to rape her. The incident, which took place on Thursday, escalated when the girl fought back. The accused, identified as Pankaj Rawat, along with his companions, allegedly stabbed her repeatedly. It wasn't until her cries for help were heard that bystanders rushed to her aid, transporting her to a nearby hospital and alerting her family.
Reports indicate that Pankaj Rawat had been harassing the victim for about a year prior to the attack. The girl had previously filed a complaint at the PGI police station, but the authorities facilitated a settlement at the time.
The victim's father has lodged a formal complaint with the PGI Kotwali police station, resulting in a registered case.
Inspector PGI, Rana Rajesh Singh, disclosed that four police teams are actively conducting search operations to apprehend Pankaj and his associates. Some individuals have been taken into custody for questioning.
As of now, the girl remains in critical condition, casting a grim shadow over the aftermath of this appalling incident.
