Mumbai horror: Professor stabbed to death in local train by passenger after argument
PTC News Desk: A 33-year-old man lost his life after being stabbed on a moving Mumbai local train following a minor dispute with another passenger. The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a 27-year-old man, Omkar Shinde, on Sunday in connection with the incident. Officials said Shinde has no previous criminal record.
The victim, identified as Alok Kumar Singh, was a professor at a private college. The attack reportedly occurred as the train was approaching Malad station, where Singh was scheduled to get off. The accused allegedly escaped as the train slowed down and was later seen fleeing in CCTV footage.
Singh was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries. Sources revealed that during the verbal altercation, the attacker had threatened him. According to the GRP, the argument stemmed from a disagreement over getting off the train, and the accused used a sharp object to carry out the assault.
Shinde was tracked and arrested using technical and confidential intelligence, the GRP said. Singh, who was originally from Uttar Pradesh, is survived by his wife; the couple had married about two years ago.
Following the incident, the GRP registered a murder case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). While minor disputes and physical confrontations are not uncommon on Mumbai’s busy local train network, authorities described this fatal attack as a serious escalation.
In a previous incident in July last year, a viral video showed two women fighting on a train after one allegedly elbowed the other while trying to board first.
