New Delhi, June 17: NIA will investigate the attacks on Indian High Commission in Canada and the US by Khalistani elements, as per Delhi Police sources.

The Delhi Police Special Cell filed FIRs under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in relation to the March 2023 attack in Canada and San Francisco (US). According to Delhi Police sources, the matter has now been handed to the NIA. Pro-Khalistan protesters in the United States recently threatened the Indian embassy and Indian Ambassador to the United States Taranjit Singh Sandhu.

While demonstrating outside the mission, one protestor issued a direct threat to the Ambassador, saying that the "hypocrisy" will stop and that the Ambassador may face a fate similar to that of former Indian President Zail Singh in 1994.

The US responded, saying, "Violence or the threat of violence against diplomatic facilities and personnel in the United States is a grave concern and will not be tolerated."

Protests by Khalistan supporters have occurred several times outside the Indian Embassy and the San Francisco Consulate.

On March 20, the Indian Consulate in San Francisco was also attacked.

Recently, a video of pro-Khalistani protestors gathered at the embassy in San Francisco, shouting slogans in support of pro-Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh and heckling staff as they abandoned the diplomatic mission surfaced on social media.

The US has condemned recent violent occurrences during protests at Indian diplomatic facilities in the country.

Earlier in March, Khalistan supporters protested outside the Indian Embassy in Canada, raised slogans and allegedly assaulted Indian-origin journalists present on the spot.
