Operation Sindoor: In 25-minute operation, 70 killed in 24 strikes; 9 terror camps targeted | A Recap

Operation Sindoor: In a swift and high-impact military operation codenamed Operation Sindoor, India launched a coordinated missile strike on nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), killing at least 70 terrorists and injuring over 60 others. The operation was carried out jointly by the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force in the early hours of Tuesday, lasting just 25 minutes from 1.05 am to 1.30 am.

The strike came in direct response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left 26 civilians dead, including one Nepali national. The assault was traced back to Pakistan-based terror groups, prompting India’s decisive and proportionate retaliation.

“Measured, Proportionate, and Non-Escalatory”

At a press briefing in New Delhi, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, flanked by Colonel Sophia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, underscored the operation’s strategic intent: “Our actions were measured and non-escalatory, proportionate and responsible,” said Misri. “They focused on dismantling terrorists' infrastructure and deterring future attacks.”

Colonel Qureshi emphasised that the strikes marked a significant shift in India’s counter-terrorism doctrine, targeting the infrastructure built over decades to facilitate terror infiltration into India. “Pakistan has long nurtured a network of recruitment, training, and logistics camps. Operation Sindoor was designed to dismantle those facilities and send a strong deterrent signal.”

Key Strike Locations and Targets

The precision strikes hit terrorist facilities in the following locations:

Muzaffarabad

Kotli

Bahawalpur

Rawalakot

Chakswari

Bhimber

Neelum Valley

Jhelum

Chakwal

Of these, five sites were located in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and four within mainland Pakistan. Notably, Bahawalpur is known as a JeM stronghold, while Muzaffarabad and Bhimber have served as logistical hubs for terrorist infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir.

High-Precision, Multi-Platform Strike

Using precision-guided munitions, including laser-designated missiles and satellite-guided glide bombs, the Indian forces ensured minimal collateral damage. The missiles were launched from both air and ground platforms in a synchronised manner, guided by real-time UAV surveillance, which confirmed successful neutralisation of all intended targets.

The operation specifically avoided Pakistani military installations, focusing solely on terrorist command centres, arms depots, training camps, and staging areas affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).
