Russian President Putin to visit India amid Trump's tariff barrage
PTC News Desk: Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to visit India later this year, confirmed NSA Ajit Doval in Moscow. He said that dates are not finalised yet but the visit is most likely to take place in August.
The visit takes place against the backdrop of escalating tensions between New Delhi and Washington over India’s continued oil purchase from Russia. On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump signed a new executive order imposing an additional 25% tariff on Indian imports, citing India’s continued purchase of Russian oil as the reason.
The US has also warned that buyers of Russian oil could face secondary sanctions unless Moscow agrees to halt its war in Ukraine, now entering its fourth year, by Friday.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin announced on Thursday that President Putin is expected to meet with Trump in the coming days. According to Putin’s Foreign Affairs Adviser, Yuri Ushakov, both parties are working to finalize the meeting, with a venue already chosen and to be disclosed soon.
