SpiceJet passenger trapped in toilet for hour on Mumbai-Bengaluru flight

PTC News Desk: In an unfortunate incident, a SpiceJet passenger traveling from Mumbai to Bengaluru found himself stuck inside an aircraft toilet for nearly an hour due to a malfunctioning door lock.

The ordeal unfolded on a SpiceJet flight that departed from Mumbai at 2:13 am. Shortly after the seat belt sign was turned off, a male passenger attempted to use the lavatory but became trapped inside when the door lock allegedly malfunctioned. The passenger had to endure the situation until the aircraft landed in Bengaluru at 3:10 am, where technicians were finally able to open the door.

SpiceJet issued a statement expressing regret for the incident and announced that the affected passenger would be provided a full refund. The airline assured that the passenger received assistance throughout the duration of the journey.

"On 16 January, a passenger unfortunately got stuck inside the lavatory for about an hour on the SpiceJet flight operating from Mumbai to Bengaluru, while the aircraft was airborne due to a malfunction in the door lock. Throughout the journey, our crew provided assistance and guidance to the passenger," SpiceJet stated.

In a desperate attempt to resolve the situation, the crew passed a note to the trapped passenger, reassuring him and instructing him not to panic. The note read, "Sir, we tried our best to open the door. However, we could not open it. Do not panic; we are landing in a few minutes. So, please close the commode lid and sit on it to secure yourself. As soon as the main door is open, the engineer will come. Do not panic."

Upon the aircraft's arrival at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, an engineer successfully opened the lavatory door, and the passenger received immediate medical support, according to the airline.

"SpiceJet regrets and apologises for the inconvenience caused to the passenger," the statement concluded.
