PTC Web Desk: In a devastating incident during the Manjuvirattu, a bull-chasing sport in Tamil Nadu's Sivaganga district, a minor and a 35-year-old lost their lives, while 70 others sustained injuries on Wednesday. The casualties include 11-year-old Ravi from Valaiyampatti.

The event witnessed the participation of 271 bulls and 81 bull tamers and was conducted in the presence of prominent figures, including District Collector Asha Ajit, Constituency MP Karti P Chidambaram, and DMK Minister Periyakaruppan.


Meanwhile, in the Alanganallur Jallikattu event in Madurai district, three persons—an experienced bull tamer, a policeman, and a bull owner—suffered injuries. The event featured a total of 1,200 bulls and 800 bull tamers. Notably, the winners, both bull tamers and bulls, are slated to receive a Nissan Magnite car, and each participating bull will be awarded a gold coin.

In an effort to enhance safety and facilities, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin is scheduled to inaugurate a Jallikattu arena at Keelakarai in Madurai district on January 24.

Stringent safety measures were in place, with a medical team of 90 staff members, a veterinary team of 70 staff members, and Red Cross volunteers attending to the event. Ambulances were also on standby. Additionally, 1,500 police personnel were deployed to manage the crowd at the Jallikattu arena in Alanganallur.

In an effort to enhance safety and facilities, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin is scheduled to inaugurate a Jallikattu arena at Keelakarai in Madurai district on January 24. Costing Rs 44 crore, the arena is expected to accommodate around 5,000 spectators and stands as a significant step in promoting and organizing such events in the state, according to Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.
