Punjab has so far provided free treatment worth Rs 13.54 cr to cancer patients: Jauramajra
Chandigarh, November 23: The Punjab Government, led by Bhagwant Mann, has so far provided free treatment worth Rs 13.54 crore to cancer patients.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Chetan Singh Jauramajra said more than 1,265 cancer patients had been provided free treatment worth Rs 13.54 crore under 'Mukh Mantri Cancer Rahat Kosh' in hospitals empaneled with the Punjab Government.

Instructions had been issued to health officials for giving impetus to the implementation of the government's health schemes and programmes so that the public might benefit more from such welfare measures.
The Punjab Health Minister said the state had a high prevalence of cancer and its treatment involved high costs which was not affordable for the patients belonging to the poor strata of society.
In order to safeguard the life of such poor patients, this scheme had proven to be a boon for them as they could get free treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh in any of the 19 hospitals empaneled with the state government, including prestigious institutes such as AIIMS-Delhi, PGI-Chandigarh, CMC & DMC Ludhiana and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, Sangrur.
The Health Minister said any Punjab resident suffering from cancer could apply for this cashless treatment scheme at the empanelled hospital. The procedure to approve such cases had as been digitalised with dedicated portal. Patients could log on to www.mmpcrk.gov.in to track the status of their application online.
The Punjab Cabinet minister said free travel facility in Punjab Roadways and PRTC buses had been provided for cancer patients for availing treatment.
