Prisoner 'thrashed' in Amritsar Central jail, dies

Amritsar, March 2: In a shocking incident, a prisoner died after being thrashed in Amritsar Central Jail on Tuesday. The police has started a further investigation into the matter. According to the information, the deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Davinder Singh, a resident of village Aliwal Kotli, Tehsil Ajnala, Amritsar. According to the family, Davinder's leg was broken, and had sustained serious head injuries. The family members said that the injuries Davinder had suffered injuries during the beating by the police. As per the initial information, the incident took place after an argument erupted between the two groups leading to the fight. Davinder was taken to the Guru Nanak Hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries. The body was sent for postmortem and later handed over to the family.
