PRTC awaits Rs 175-crore dues for providing free bus travel to women

Patiala, October 13: After Punjab government paid 21 crore rupees to PRTC, the salary has been deposited in the accounts of PRTC contractual employees. This has given a great relief to the employees. Apart from this, as arrears of contractual employees, the liability of Rs. 17 crores is also pending. Notably, PRTC still owes 175 crore rupees to the Punjab government.

Punjab government sent 21 crore rupees to PRTC, the free bus service for women started by Punjab government is costing dearer to PRTC. PRTC has to bear Rs 25 crore for free bus service in a month. The total number of contractual employees and pensioners of PRTC is around 9 thousand and their monthly salary and pension bill is around 25 crores. PRTC Contractual Employees Union has appealed to the Punjab Government to deposit the amount of free bus service in advance so that the employees and pensioners can get their salary and pension on time. Apart from this many buses are standing in depots due to lack of money as PRTC does not have money to buy fuel and repair them, routes are also being shortened due to lack of buses.
