Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti 2022: Devotees offer prayers at Golden Temple in Amritsar

Amritsar, December 29 (Maninder Monga): Thousands of devotees prayed at the Golden Temple in Amritsar on the occasion of Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti. His 356th birthday will be celebrated on Thursday, December 29th.

Guru Gobind Singh,  tenth and last guru of Sikhs and an inspiration to millions of people around the world, after his father was beheaded by order of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, only he At the age of nine he was declared a Sikh guru. Every year, Sikhs around the world observe this day in gurdwara to offer prayers to their Sikh guru, and bhajans and kirtans are also organized in his honor.

Earlier on Monday 26th December, Veer Baal Diwas was observed for the first time across the country to commemorate the sacrifice of Guru Gobind Singh's sons who laid their lives to protect the dignity and honor of Sikhism.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the celebrations at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in New Delhi said, "Veer Baal Diwas stands for the 'Shaurya' and 'Sikh balidan' and will also empower Indians to take pride in their identity, in the world. The day will help us celebrate the past and would inspire us to build the future."

PM Modi further said that the 'Panch Pyare' of Guru Gobind Singh were from all parts of the country, signifying the unity in diversity of India, hence the Sikh Guru tradition is also an inspiration for the idea of 'Ek Bharat-Shreshtha Bharat'.

"India has a rich history. We bow towards Nachiketa, who won the battle against death. We respect the valour of Shri Ram, and we are inspired by Bhagwan Mahavir," he said.

The birth anniversary of the tenth Patshah Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji was celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm in Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib. In connection with the birth anniversary of Dasham Pita, a Gurmati Diwan and Kavi Durbar were organized at Gurudwara Manji Sahib Diwan Hall after the feast of Sri Akhand Path Sahib. From 9 am to 12 pm, Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Gurudwara Baba Attal Rai Sahib were decorated with beautiful garlands for the darshan of the devotees. Despite the bitter cold and dense fog, devotees paid obeisance at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib in large numbers. 

Pilgrims bathed in the holy lake and stood in queues for hours and bowed down at Sri Harmandir Sahib and prayed for the good of 'Sarbat'(all). In the evening, fireworks will be displayed at Sri Harmandir Sahib along with Deepmala.
