Kangana Ranaut seeks exemption from personal appearance in Bathinda defamation case

PTC Web Desk: Mandi MP and Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut has requested exemption from personal appearance in the ongoing defamation case in a Bathinda court. The court has now scheduled December 4 as the next date, when Kangana Ranaut’s legal team will submit their response.

Earlier, Kangana’s counsel had filed an application seeking permission for her to appear through video conferencing (VC) in future hearings after her personal appearance on October 27. The court provided a copy of the application to the complainant’s legal representative, who requested additional time to file a reply. Subsequently, the matter was adjourned to November 24.

The case dates back to 2021, during the farmers’ protest, when Kangana Ranaut posted a tweet referring to 87-year-old farmer Mohinder Kaur from Bathinda district as a woman allegedly paid Rs 100 to participate in the protest. The tweet triggered widespread criticism, following which Mohinder Kaur filed a defamation case against the actor.

During the last hearing, Ranaut Ranaut appeared in person and apologised for her remarks, stating that her comment was a result of a misunderstanding. Speaking to media after the hearing, she said, “There was a miscommunication. I have conveyed a message to the mother that it was a misunderstanding. I had no such intention.”

The case continues to proceed before the Bathinda court.
