'Messenger of death': Punjab bans tractor stunts after youth dies in Gurdaspur
PTC News Desk: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced a ban on tractor stunts on Monday, following the death of a 29-year-old man during a performance at a rural sports event in Gurdaspur district.
The incident, which was captured on video by a few spectators and shared online, sparked calls from some quarters to ban such dangerous stunts, which are common at sports events in rural Punjab.
CM Bhagwant Mann took to X and said, “Dear Punjabis, a tractor is called king of fields. Do not make it a messenger of death. A ban is being imposed on any kind of stunt or dangerous performance with a tractor and related implements in Punjab…rest of details soon."
On Saturday, Sukhmandeep Singh was performing the stunt at a fair in Sarchur village, Fatehgarh Churian, when the incident occurred.
When the stuntman attempted to climb onto a tractor, the vehicle stood on its rear tyres and its engine was revving. He was run over by the tractor after one of his feet became entangled in the mud.
