Punjab: 301 drug smugglers held with huge quantity of heroin, opium, ganja in week
Mohali, November 29: The Punjab Police arrested 301 drug smugglers and suppliers after registering 231 FIRs, including 23 commercial, under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act across the state in the last week.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Headquarters, Sukhchain Singh Gill, while addressing the media on Tuesday, said the Punjab Police recovered 4.1-kg heroin, 6.46-kg opium, 37-kg ganja, 10 quintal of poppy husk, and 71,000 tablets/capsules/injections/vials of pharma opioids, besides recovering Rs 7.45 lakh drug money from their possession.

He said with 15 more proclaimed offenders (POs)/absconders in NDPS cases arrested in the last week, the total number of arrests had reached 459 since the special drive to arrest POs/absconders was started on July 5, 2022.
Notably, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav had given strict instructions to all the CPs/SSPs to investigate backward and forward linkages minutely in each and every case, especially related to drug recoveries, even if they recover a meager amount of drugs.
