Chandigarh, June 19: Punjab Police recently conducted a comprehensive review of security arrangements at various religious institutions throughout the state. A total of 16,118 Gurdwaras, 4,263 Temples, 1,930 Churches, and 777 Mosques were examined by 698 police teams.

This initiative is part of the commitment of Punjab Police to transform the state into a safe and secure place, in line with the vision of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

The special checking took place over the course of two days, specifically on Saturday and Sunday, across all 28 police districts in Punjab. The Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, directed the implementation of this operation.

The objective was to ensure foolproof security measures at religious institutions and maintain a strict vigilance against any mischievous activities.

As part of the inspection, Commissioner of Police (CPs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) were instructed to deploy sufficient police teams to visit religious places within their jurisdictions. These teams conducted security review meetings with the priests and members of the management committees. Additionally, high-ranking officers held meetings with prominent religious groups such as the Satkar committees and leaders of the Shiv Sena.

A key aspect of the review was to verify the presence and functionality of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at these religious institutions. The police teams ensured that all the Gurdwaras, Temples, Churches, and Mosques had installed CCTV cameras on their premises and that security guards or watchmen were stationed to oversee the facilities. Over 4,000 police personnel were involved in this extensive checking process.

Special DGP Arpit Shukla emphasised the importance of continuous vigilance and alertness among the management committees of these religious institutions. He urged them to conduct weekly checks on the CCTV cameras to ensure they were in proper working condition. Furthermore, he advised the committees to assign security guards to the entry gates of the religious places as an additional precautionary measure.

To enhance surveillance and deter anti-social elements, CPs and SSPs were directed to increase police patrolling around all religious places. This initiative aims to intensify the monitoring and security measures in the vicinity of these institutions.

By undertaking this comprehensive review of security arrangements and taking necessary steps to bolster safety, Punjab Police is striving to create a secure environment at religious institutions throughout the state. The commitment to the vision of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann ensures that Punjab remains a safe and harmonious place for its residents and visitors alike.
