Punjab gets rain relief after days of intense heat, yellow alert issued for next four days
Punjab Weather: After experiencing sweltering heat and high humidity over the past few days, people across Punjab finally received much-needed relief as rain lashed several parts of the state early on Monday.
Light to moderate showers were reported from a number of districts, bringing down temperatures and making the weather significantly more pleasant. Residents, who had been struggling with uncomfortable weather conditions, welcomed the rainfall.
According to the latest weather update, districts, including Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib recorded rainfall during the early hours of the day. Several nearby towns and rural areas also witnessed showers.
The rain has led to a noticeable drop in daytime temperatures, easing the humid conditions that had persisted across the state.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the spell of rain is likely to continue over the next four days. Keeping in view the possibility of thunderstorms, gusty winds and intermittent rainfall, the department has issued a Yellow Alert for Punjab during this period.
Officials have advised people to remain cautious, especially while travelling during periods of heavy rain or strong winds.
Apart from providing relief from the heat, the rainfall is also expected to benefit the ongoing paddy cultivation in many parts of the state. Farmers are hopeful that continued showers over the coming days will support crop growth and reduce the need for additional irrigation.
