Punjab elections 2022: 25 farmer unions to enter poll fray, may forge alliance with AAP
Ahead of Punjab assembly elections 2022, over 25 farmer unions, which were part of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) that led the agitation against the three fam laws, have decided to enter the poll fray. The unions are likely to forge an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the sources said.
According to the information, the decision was taken at a meeting held near Ludhiana on Friday. The sources also revealed that 7 of the 32 farmer unions – which formed the Samyukta Kisan Morcha– have decided to not enter the poll fray. However, the remaining 25 unions have decided to enter into politics.

During the meeting, seven unions decided to stay away from contesting Punjab Assembly elections 2022 and even requested the remaining unions not to use the banner of SKM for the same.
Meanwhile, the 25 unions are likely to formally announce the decision on Saturday.
Over a dozen of farmer unions were in favour of an alliance with the AAP. There have already been rumours of Balbir Singh Rajewal and Harmeet Singh Kadian joining AAP for the Assembly elections. However, both of them have denied these speculations.
