Chandigarh, July 12: Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Tuesday met Hirakshi's family and announced financial assistance of Rs 20 lakh to the kins of the deceased student.
Hirakshi, 16, a student of Chandigarh's Sector-9 Carmel Convent School died after a 250 yr-old-tree inside school premises fell on Friday.
The Punjab Governor was accompanied by Dharam Pal, Adviser to the Administrator and other Senior Officers of the Administration.
The senior officials also paid a visit to PGIMER, where other students and a school employee who had been injured in the incident were being treated, and assured them of all possible assistance.
Governor Purohit also announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakhs to those seriously injured and Rs 1 lakh each to the students who suffered minor injuries.
Moreover, the UT administration has decided to appoint Justice Jitender Chauhan (Retd) to Inquiry Committee to ascertain the facts of the case and fix responsibility including remedial action to be taken.
