Punjabi man shot dead in Philippines’ Manila
A Punjabi man from Garhshankar was shot dead on Wednesday in Manila, Philippines. The victim, Sanjiv Kumar (30) of Ghago Guru Village was living there for nine years. He was collecting payments in Manila at the time when an unidentified miscreant opened fire at him. Three bullets hit Sanjiv’s head and he died on the spot.
The body of Sanjiv was identified by another Punjab origin based in Manila. The body has been kept in a hospital. Deceased’s younger brother Gurdip Kumar, who had migrated to the Philippines two months ago, informed the family about the incident. Sanjiv’s father is a vendor and a former sarpanch. He told the media sources that he did not have any financial resources left with him to bring back the body for last rites. All he had was spent on Sanjiv’s treatment after he met with an accident back in 2011. And the rest was spent on his wife who died of cancer a year-and-a-half-ago. Sanjiv was staying in Manila for past nine years and got married there. He is survived by his wife, a five-year-old-daughter and two-year-old son. Sanjiv’s father wanted to bring back his grandchildren to India but financial crunch was the major hinderance for him. -PTC NEWS
