Renowned Sikh historian, Dr Kirpal Singh passes away at 95
Renowned Sikh historian Dr Kirpal Singh passed away at the age of 95 on Tuesday morning. He breathed his last at his home in Chandigarh. The cremation will take place at Chandigarh cremation ground at 4:00 PM.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter. His wife, Joginder Kaur, died at the age of 93 after a brief illness on September 1, 2018. He was the Chairman of the Sikh History Resource Editing Project
Giani Gurbachan Singh, former Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib had bestowed the title of National Professor of Sikhism on Dr Kirpal Singh. He was a Sikh historian and author of several books.
Born in 1924 in Gujrawalan district, now in Pakistan, Dr Kirpal Singh, who was a founder of Oral History Department in Punjabi University, Patiala, has made a seminal contribution to the modern and medieval history of India.
