Rs 50 crore released by UT Administration for roads, other works in Chandigarh
In a major relief for the cash-strapped Municipal Corporation, the UT Administration has released Rs 50 crore for recarpeting of roads and other development works. Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore approved the grant today.
The approval came soon after Kirron Kher, Member of Parliament, along with Mayor Davesh Moudgil, raised the issue with the Governor.
All works relating to the repair and recarpeting of roads was stopped for months due to the financial crisis being faced by the MC.
The recent heavy rain has further damaged roads, posing danger to residents but also give an ugly look to the city.
Several roads in the city, particularly those in Sector 18, 21, 22, 38 (West), 46 and 47, are in bad shape.
The MC had recently submitted a plan for the all-round development of villages where sewerage, water supply and other infrastructure will be improved. The special grant is an addition to the grant-in-aid of Rs 120 crore released earlier.
