SAD condemns attempts to suppress Kisan Andolan by misusing UAPA
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Majithia on Friday condemned attempts to suppress the peaceful Kisan Andolan brutally by imposing the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against farmer leaders as well as disrespect being shown to Nishan Sahib by miscreants.
Condemning imposition of UAPA against farmer leaders as well as other simultaneous tyrannical actions against the farmer movement, SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia said “this is no way to treat the anndaata”.

He said UAPA had been framed to act against those challenging the unity and integrity of India.
“The farmers have been agitating peacefully to demand repeal of the farm laws as well as remunerative prices for their produce since two months on the borders of Delhi. It is shocking that instead of holding discussions with them and repealing the three Agri Acts the government has decided to persecute the farmer leaders,” Shiromani Akali Dal leader said.

Majithia also condemned attempts to inflame passion which could spoil peace and communal harmony in the county. He said disturbing visuals had emerged of people trampling on the “Nishan Sahib”.
He said such visuals were an insult to the Nishan Sahib had had caused grave hurt to the sentiments of Punjabis world over. They can also result in a serious law and order situation which could spiral out of control.
“I request the central government to take note of the volatile situation and take appropriate measures to diffuse it instead of becoming a party to persecution of the farming community”.
