Netflix puts end to password sharing in India, check details

PTC News Desk: Netflix has ended password sharing in India. Announcing the development, the company said that only members of a household will be able to access one account.

The decision is part of a global crackdown on customers exchanging passwords with persons other than their immediate family, which was announced in May, as the company works to shore up revenue after a tough period last year.

"Everyone living in that household can use Netflix wherever they are - at home, on the go, on holiday - and take advantage of new features like Transfer Profile and Manage Access and Devices," the streaming giant said.

The company stated that it has begun sending emails to customers in India who share Netflix with others outside their households.

According to the firm, users may use Netflix at home, on the go, and on vacation, and take advantage of new services such as Transfer Profile and Manage Access and Devices.

"We recognise that our members have many entertainment choices. It is why we continue to invest heavily in a wide variety of new films and TV shows - so whatever your taste, mood or language and whoever you are watching with, there is always something satisfying to watch on Netflix."

Netflix restricted password sharing in over 100 countries in May, including major markets such as the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, Singapore, Mexico, and Brazil.

The crackdown has assisted the company in adding roughly 6 million users worldwide.

According to an earnings report, the streaming behemoth closed the most recent quarter with 238 million subscribers and a profit of $1.5 billion.

To convert non-paying customers, Netflix has provided "borrower" or "shared" accounts, which allow subscribers to add other viewers for a fee or transfer watching profiles to new accounts.

Netflix released an ad-subsidized offering at the same time as the crackdown, and on Wednesday it discontinued its most affordable ad-free subscription, which cost $10 per month in the United States.
