Who will be Indian cricket team's head coach if Rahul Dravid does not re-apply?

PTC News Desk: VVS Laxman, the head of the National Cricket Academy, could be in charge of the Indian team for the five-match T20 International series against Australia, which begins a week after the ODI World Cup concludes.

Head coach Rahul Dravid's contract will expire at the end of the World Cup, and the BCCI will have the option of asking the former India captain to reapply, as the board will have to reinvite applications for the position in accordance with the norm.

It will be interesting to see if Dravid, 51, wishes to continue as head coach of the national team, which entails a lot of travelling and constant pressure.

Dravid, who has previously coached IPL teams such as the Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals, could return to the T20 league, which has ten teams.

However, it is highly likely that Dravid, along with the rest of the squad except Suryakumar Yadav, will be given much-needed rest after a gruelling campaign that required them to travel more than 10,000 kilometres across the country.

"VVS Laxman has always been in charge when Rahul has taken a break, and the same thing is likely to continue for the series just after the World Cup," a BCCI source said, according to media reports.

If new applications are invited, Laxman could be a very strong candidate because BCCI has established a process in which the person in charge of NCA and who knows the system and pathways inside and out is prepared for the role.
