Supreme Court lifts life ban on Sreesanth; asks BCCI to alter quantum of punishment
In a big relief, the Supreme Court on Friday lifted life ban on former Indian cricketer S Sreesanth imposed by BCCI for his involvement in 2013 IPL spot-fixing case. The court further asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to reconsider the punishment to be given to Sreesanth within 3 months.
The decision taken by a bench comprising of Justices Ashok Bhushan and KM Joseph will give Sreesanth an opportunity of being heard by the BCCI on the quantum of punishment. The bench also made it clear that its verdict of lifting the life ban shall have no effect on the criminal proceedings pending against S Sreesanth in Delhi High Court.
Sreesanth filed a petition in the Supreme Court to challenge the decision of Kerala High Court that had restored the life ban imposed by the BCCI.
