Elon Musk's X (Twitter) introduces 'not a bot' subscription model for $1 per year
PTC News Desk: Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, is set to introduce a new subscription model, "Not A Bot," charging users an annual fee of $1 for access to essential features. This subscription will encompass functionalities such as liking, reposting, quoting posts, and bookmarking on the web version of the platform. The primary aim of this subscription model is to combat issues related to bots and spammers, with fees adjusted based on the exchange rate in each country.
Initially, this subscription method will be trialed for users in New Zealand and the Philippines. Existing users will not be affected by this change, while new users who opt not to subscribe will have limited access, only allowing them to view and read posts, watch videos, and follow accounts.
Battling bots has been a significant concern for Elon Musk, who acquired the platform last year. In July, X introduced tweet viewing limits to enhance user base authenticity. This month, it was reported that X CEO Linda Yaccarino discussed the testing of a subscription service with lenders, considering different tiers based on the number of ads shown to users.
