Women power: OTT platforms extend reach, launch more women in leading roles
Chandigarh, March 8: Movies are often made from real-time experiences. And OTT platforms have rightly zeroed in on topics concerning women and their lives. People often talk about the right to equality, and OTT platforms are the perfect example that women have finally leveled the gender field. They have spread their tentacles everywhere, in every profession. And if we talk about OTT platforms, a new normal amid the Covid-19 outbreak, these have become a boon for women-centric content. From YouTube, Netflix to Amazon Prime, most OTT platforms have been focusing on content led by a woman cast. And the shift is not sudden. It is indeed a welcome change for makers and the audience. Viewers feel that it is welcoming to see more women's presence on the sets. OTT platforms have opened up a whole new world for women. Be it 'A Thursday' or 'Gangubai Kathiawadi', the OTT platforms have started raising important issues. 'A Thursday' featuring Yami Gautam, Atul Kulkarni, Neha Dhupia, Dimple Kapadia and Karanvir Sharma has highlighted the menace of rape plaguing society. Likewise, 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' revolves around a woman who wanted to become an actress, but was pushed into the underworld. Several other web series such as 'The Fame Game', 'Four More Shots Please!' and 'Aarya' among others have portrayed women in a good way. Women are powerful and the OTT platforms is justifying the fact by highlighting the power of women.
