Middle East crisis: Trump says Iran offered making him Supreme Leader amid power vaccum: I said, 'No, thank you'
PTC News Desk: In yet another bizarre claim, US President Donald Trump made an extraordinary assertion that Iran’s leadership had informally offered him to become the Islamic Republic’s next Supreme Leader, but he turned them down.
"There's never been a head of a country that wanted that job less than being the head of Iran," Trump said at the annual NRCC dinner. "We hear them very clearly. They say, I don't want it. We'd like to make you the next supreme leader. No, thank you. I don't want it."
However, despite Trump’s remarks, Iran has denied that any negotiations are taking place to end the nearly month-long war.
The remarks were made amid power vaccum that Iran is currently facing following killing of Ayatollah Khamenei last month. His son Mojtaba Khameni was choses as his successor, however he has not publicly appeared since the inception of war, with several reports suggesting he is undergoing treatment after getting critically injured in the war.
Trump while describing US action against Iran as a “military decimation" claimed a decisive victory and asserted that backchannel talks are underway. He also suggested that Iran was eager for a ceasefire but holding back due to fears of internal consequences.
