Pakistan rain fury: Helicopter carrying aid crashes; over 200 killed in monsoon-hit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PTC News Desk: A helicopter carrying aid crashed during rescue operation in monsoon-hit northern Pakistan on Friday, killing five crew on board, the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province said in a statement. 


“An MI-17 helicopter of the provincial government, carrying relief goods for rain-affected areas of Bajaur, crashed in the Pandiyali area of Mohmand district due to bad weather,” Ali Amin Gandapur said in a statement,  “Five crew members, including two pilots, were killed.”

Meanwhile, over 200 people have lost their lives due to flashfloods triggered by torrential rains Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Provincial Disaster Management Authority Spokesman Faizi said that over 300 deaths were caused by the devastating rains, cloud burst and flash floods in Bajaur, Buner, Swat, Manaehra, Shangla, Torghar, and Batagram districts of the province.

The meteorological department has issued a heavy rain alert for Pakistan's northwest for the next few hours, urging people to take "precautionary measures".
