PTC Web Desk: In a remarkable demonstration of commitment to environmental conservation, 12-year-old Sikh youth Rehras Singh Kukreja embarked on a transformative journey along Bhutan's revered Tiger’s Nest trail.

Infusing Sikh values with the ancient wisdom of Bhutan, Rehras Singh engaged in an impactful cleanup mission organised by Tourism Bhutan and Bhutan’s Department of Tourism (DOT).

Rehras, a student at St George’s College, Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, and the son of esteemed Sikh travel content creators and entrepreneurs, Harjinder Singh Kukreja and Harkirat Kaur Kukreja, undertook this journey as a blend of spiritual devotion and environmental stewardship. His efforts were a poignant manifestation of the Sikh principle of 'sewa', symbolising selfless service to the environment and resonating deeply with Bhutan's ethos of living in harmony with nature.

Environmental Expedition

Donning gloves and equipped with a bag, Rehras Singh meticulously collected and cleaned trash along the sacred Tiger’s Nest trail, demonstrating reverence for the environment with each piece of litter removed.

Guided by Tshewang Nidup, a respected figure in Bhutan’s travel industry, Rehras's journey evolved into a spiritual odyssey, underscoring the interconnection between human actions and nature.

Spiritual Significance

Rehras approached the expedition as a meditation, recognising each step and breath as a form of prayer. His dedication to picking up discarded trash was a testament to the Sikh principle of 'sewa', honouring the sanctity of the landscape with each act of service.

Community Responses

His father, Harjinder Singh Kukreja, expressed immense pride in Rehras's unwavering dedication, emphasising the values cherished in their Sikh family. Tshewang Nidup lauded Rehras as a shining example of the younger generation's role in fostering a sustainable future, echoing the teachings of Guru Rimpoche.

Rehras shared his profound connection to the land and its teachings, expressing a deep sense of fulfillment in preserving its beauty, likening it to honouring Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Buddha.

Bhutan's commitment to environmental sustainability, exemplified by maintaining a carbon-negative status and prioritising forest cover, aligns with Sikh values. Rehras aims to continue engaging in similar environmental initiatives, transcending ecological endeavours into spiritual pilgrimages, embodying lessons in humility, responsibility, and the significant impact young Sikh individuals can have on the planet.
