Thaw in US-Iran ties? Trump pauses strikes on Iran power plant for five days, talks to end war underway
PTC News Desk:In a significant breakthrough, US President Donald Trump on Monday announced a temporary pause on military strikes targeting Iran's energy infrastructure and asserted that Washington and Tehran have held 'very good and productive' conversation over the past two days.
Trump confirmed the development on his social media Truth Social and said that he has directed the Department of War to impose a temporary pause any and all military strikes againt Iranian power plant and energy infrastructure for five days.
"I am pleased to report that the United States of America and the country of Iran have had over the last two days very good and productive conversation regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East. Based on the tenor and tone of these in depth, detailed and constructive conversations, which will continue throughout the week, I have instructed the Department of War to postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five day period, subject to the success of the ongoing meetings and discussions," Trump posted on his social media Truth Social.
The announcement comes just a day after Trump issued a stark warning to Iran, threatening to “hit and obliterate” its power plants if Tehran did not fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.
However the announcement comes with certain caveats with one being that the pause is temporary depending upon the gradual developments and progress on the negotiating table.
There was no indication from Tehran that it had accepted any terms, nor any confirmation that formal talks were actually underway.
Tehran in reality gave no concrete indication of compliance , instead it has already restricted tamker traffic through the waterway.
Iran had strongly responded to Trump's ultimatum warnng that any attack on its energy infrastructure would see wider retaliation across the region. Tehran also reiterated on its threat to shut down Strait of Hormuz completely that could further trigger a bigger energy crisis until destroyed Iranian power plants were rebuilt.
