Government scraps Rs 10,000 cap on tuition fee of martyred soldiers' children

The government on Thursday announced that the Rs 10,000 cap on the education fee for the children of martyred personnel of Indian military has been removed.Finance Minister Arun Jaitley granted the approval.

In 2017, based on the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission the decision was taken to cap the tuition fee and hostel expenses to Rs 10,000 per month.


As per an order that came on March 21, 2018, the cap has been lifted for those studying in government or government-aided school, institute. It also includes any other institutions recognised by the central or state governments and autonomous schools and university, under the government.

"This small gesture would assure the families of our brave women and men that the nation cares for them and their sacrifices are truly appreciated by the government," said the chiefs of staff committee chairman and Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba, in a letter, as per reports.

In 2017-18 around 25 students were affected after the move was implemented and the highest amount that was drawn was Rs 18.95 lakh per annum for one student.
