11 people have been sentenced to life imprisonment by a court for lynching a meat trader in Jharkhand in June last year after accusing him of carrying beef in his car.

The 11 people were held guilty by the court of killing the 40-year-old Alimuddin Ansari on March 17.

Ansari was killed by a mob of cow vigilantes in Bazaar Thand in Jharkhan’s Ramgarh town on June 29, 2017.

As per reports, he was carrying 200 kg of meat in his car.

His killing came two months after a transporter, Pehlu Khan, was killed by a mob in Rajasthan’s Alwar district on suspicion of cow smuggling.

The murders, along with growing incidents of Muslims being especially targeted by cow vigilantes, led to widespread outrage, and resulted in Prime Minister Narendra Modi breaking his silence and condemning such incidents. -PTC News
