Apart from his acting career, Govinda has also ventured into politics and served as a Member of Parliament (MP) from Mumbai North constituency. He has a significant fan following and remains a popular figure in Indian cinema.

Govind Political Career

Govinda’s political journey has been an interesting one, marked by several notable events and shifts in his career path.

Govinda entered politics by joining the Indian National Congress (INC) party in 2004 and was elected to the Lok Sabha (the lower house of the Indian parliament) from Mumbai North constituency. During the elections, he said his agenda would be prawaas (transportation), swasthya (health) and gyaan (education).

However, Govinda's film-star status could explain his inaccessibility to his constituents, but not his absence from parliament. During his tenure as the Member of Parliament, Govinda was usually absent when the Lok Sabha was in session and he was severely criticized for inactivity.

In 2008, Govinda resigned from his seat in the Lok Sabha and concentrate on his Bollywood acting career.

Maharashtra, with its 48 Lok Sabha seats, is the second-largest contributor to the lower house of Parliament after Uttar Pradesh. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won 23 out of 25 contested seats, while the undivided Shiv Sena secured 18 out of 23 seats.

More details awaited.
