Supreme Court asked Parliament to frame law to combat lynching Supreme Court asked Parliament to frame law to combat the menace of Lynching. It has asked the Parliament to make a separate law to punish offenders participating in the lynching. It also said that horrendous acts of mobocracy cannot be tolerated and cannot be allowed to become a new norm."It has to be curbed with an iron hand… no citizen can take the law into his hands or become a law on to himself," said the top court. CJI Misra said that the Centre and states have to file compliance report as directed by the SC to prevent and punish lynching. Supreme Court has earlier said that the mob lynching is a horrendous crime and no matter the motive is and there should be a law to stop it. The Supreme Court also said that the lynching happens either because of cow vigilantism or because people believe someone is a child abductor, it doesn’t matter and it is still a crime. The next hearing in this matter is on August 28. The Supreme Court plans to issue guidelines to the centre and states on how to deal with this issue. Social media rumours about child lifters have claimed a lot of lives. Recently, mob lynching in Maharashtra claimed many lives. On Sunday, 5 people were lynched, in spite of police intervention.
