173 passengers from Italy test Covid-19 positive at Punjab's Amritsar airport

Amritsar: At least 173 passengers from Italy tested positive for Covid-19 at Shri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport, Amritsar, in Punjab on Friday. Earlier on Thursday, 125 passengers on a flight between Italy and Amritsar tested positive at the Amritsar airport. They were home quarantined after they refused to go to a government Covid care isolation centre. Of these, 13 Italy returnees, who had tested Covid positive, escaped from the Amritsar hospital. On Friday, Punjab reported 2,901 fresh Covid-19 cases, 135 recoveries and one death. The active caseload stands at 9,425. Also read | Timeline of PM Narendra Modi’s ‘security lapse’; read details Earlier, amid the rising Covid-19 cases across the country, the Central Government made it mandatory for all international arrivals to undergo seven-day mandatory home quarantine, followed by RT-PCR test on the 8th day. The report will have to be uploaded on Air Suvidha portal. The revised guidelines for international arrivals will come into effect from January 11 and will be applicable till further orders. The revised order by the Central Government says that all international arrivals will have to submit complete and factual information in a self-declaration form on the online Air Suvidha portal before their scheduled travel, including travel details of the last 14 days.  They will have to upload a negative Covid-19 RT-PCR report. The test should have been conducted within 72 hours prior to undertaking the journey. Further, each passenger shall have to submit a declaration with respect to the authenticity of the report and will be liable for criminal prosecution, if found otherwise.
