'Have lost great actor and dear friend': Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit shares tragic news on his Instagram handle

PTC Web Desk: Veteran actor Satish Shah, best known for his iconic role in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, has passed away at the age of 74.

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit shared the news on Instagram, stating, “Sad and shocked to inform you that our dear friend and a great actor Satish Shah passed away a few hours ago due to kidney failure. He was rushed to Hinduja Hospital, where he breathed his last. A great loss to our industry. Om Shanti.”

Shah’s body has been kept at the hospital, and the last rites will be performed on Sunday. Shah had been battling kidney-related issues for a long time and had recently undergone a kidney transplant.

He was widely known for his work in television shows such as Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro. On the big screen, he appeared in popular films, including Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Main Hoon Na (2004), Fanaa (2006), and Om Shanti Om (2007).

In 2008, Satish Shah served as a judge alongside Archana Puran Singh on the TV show Comedy Circus. In 2015, he was appointed a member of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Society.

Born in Mandvi, Gujarat, Shah completed his studies at Xavier College before attending the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune. He married designer Madhu Shah in 1972.

Shah began his acting career in Bollywood with the 1970 film Bhagwan Parshuram and went on to appear in numerous films until 2014. On television, he made his debut in 1984 with the sitcom Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, in which he played 55 different characters across 55 episodes.

He later featured in several notable TV shows, including Filmi Chakkar, Ghar Jamai, Top 10, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, and Comedy Circus, earning acclaim for his versatility and comedic timing.
