Hockey: India bids to host Women’s World Cup in 2023
India has offered to host the 2023 Women’s World Cup Hockey Tournament. In case India’s bid is approved, it will be for the first time that Women’s World Cup will be played on Indian soil. India is among three bidders to host the 2023 Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand are other bidders.

In case the International Hockey federation approves one of three bidders, the Women’s World Cup will be held from January 13 to 29.
It may be pertinent to mention that India belongs to a select band of countries that have hosted the Men‘s World Cup Hockey Tournament thrice. India held the event in Mumbai (1981), New Delhi (2020) and Bhubaneswar (2018).
Germany, Malaysia and Spain have put in their bids to hold the Men’s World Cup in July, 2023.

Spain had the honour of holding the first Men’s World Cup in 1971 while Malaysia organized it for the first time in 1975. Germany held the Men’s world Cup for the first and only time in 2006 at Munchengladbach.
In case Spain gets it, it will be its second time.
Malaysia has held the Men’s World Cup twice, in 1975 and again in 2002.
The International Hockey federation (FIH) had fixed January 31, 2019, as the last date for inviting bids for the World Cups, both for men and women.

The FIH will now start the evaluation process of the bids. The Executive Board will make the final decision on both hosts in June 2019.
FIH CEO Thierry Weil said: “FIH is glad to have received such strong bids. This confirms how appealing our events are. We’re looking forward to two great FIH World Cups, both Men’s and Women’s, and a lot of excitement for players and fans!”
