PTC News Desk: Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal was denied bail in a money-laundering case by a special court on Wednesday on health grounds.

The 74-year-old businessman, who has cancer, is being "better looked after at the hospital" where he is admitted, the court noted.

Goyal has been receiving treatment at Sir H N Reliance Hospital for the past two months.

The businessman stated in his bail application that he had a fever after being admitted to the hospital and underwent cystoscopy (a procedure used to diagnose, monitor, and treat bladder and urethral conditions).

"Naresh Goyal has become very weak, immunity has become low and his health condition has become fragile after all his medical afflictions," according to the petition.

He has a number of life-threatening medical conditions, as well as severe mental health issues, according to reports.

In February, the court denied Goyal interim bail but allowed him to seek treatment at any hospital of his choice.

On Wednesday, M G Deshpande, a special judge for cases under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), denied his bail application.

In September 2023, Goyal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on charges of syphoning off loans of Rs 538.62 crore extended to his (now grounded) airline, Jet Airways, by Canara Bank and laundering the proceeds.
