Arpora (Goa): A family holiday turned into a devastating tragedy late Saturday night when a massive fire at Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora, Goa, claimed the lives of four members of a Ghaziabad family. The lone survivor, Bhavana Joshi, witnessed her husband’s heroic but fatal attempt to save her three sisters trapped inside the burning club.

According to the police, the family reached Goa on December 4 and was staying at a hotel in Baga. On December 6, they visited the nightclub and had been inside for barely 15 minutes when flames rapidly engulfed the premises. Panic spread as people inside struggled to escape.

Officials said Bhavana’s husband, Vinod Kumar, first pushed her out through the main exit, saving her life. But unwilling to leave her three sisters, Anita, Saroj, and Kamala, behind, he rushed back inside. The fire intensified, trapping Kumar and the three women. All four died in the blaze along with 21 others, most of them staff members.

A senior officer confirmed that Kumar was overcome by the flames while trying to reach the women. Bhavana, standing outside the entrance, kept trying to call her husband but received no response. Hotel staff supported her until rescue teams secured the area and recovered the bodies.

Relatives of the victims reached Goa from Delhi soon after the news broke. The deceased women, all residents of Delhi, leave behind children who were not part of the trip. Family members said they have not informed the children about the full extent of the tragedy yet.

“The children are waiting at home. We’ve only told them that two of their mothers are missing. We want to take all the bodies back as soon as possible,” a family member said. Another relative, describing the scene inside the charred structure, said one of the bodies was burned beyond recognition.

Authorities are now completing legal procedures to help the family transport the remains back to Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
