Nitish was, is and will remain CM: JD(U) s post, now deleted fuels speculations over Bihar Chief Minister
The situation has led to talk that the BJP might put its own leader in the top position, similar to what happened in Maharashtra.
PTC News Desk: A post on X by the JD(U) — later deleted — calling Nitish Kumar the Chief Minister of Bihar has triggered speculation about his future after the NDA's strong win in the assembly elections. Before the polls, the BJP had said it was contesting under Nitish’s leadership, but it never officially confirmed that he would become Chief Minister again for a 10th term. Meanwhile, posters across Patna saying "25 se 30, phir se Nitish" added to the confusion.
"Unprecedented and unmatched. Nitish Kumar was, is, and will remain the Chief Minister of Bihar," the JD(U) tweeted on Friday. However, minutes later, it deleted the post, triggering fervent speculation on social media.
The situation has led to talk that the BJP might put its own leader in the top position, similar to what happened in Maharashtra. In the 2024 Maharashtra elections, although the BJP campaigned with Eknath Shinde as Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis eventually took the post after the party's strong performance.
In Bihar too, there is speculation that Samrat Chaudhary — the deputy Chief Minister and leader of the opposition — could be a major contender. Known for his organisational strength and deep experience in state politics, Chaudhary is being seen as a strong alternative.
Before the elections, the BJP also changed its strategy. Traditionally, JD(U) acted as the senior partner in the alliance, but this time the BJP pushed for and secured equal seat-sharing, with both parties contesting 101 seats each — a clear sign of the BJP asserting more control.
