Protesting wrestlers, Rakesh Tikait meet Anurag Thakur after ministers offer for discussions
New Delhi, June 7: Olympians Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia as well as farmer leader Rakesh Tikait met Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Wednesday after the minister "invited" wrestlers for discussion.
Earlier in the day, Thakur had said that government is willing to have a discussion with the wrestlers on their issues.
"The government is willing to have a discussion with the wrestlers on their issues. I have once again invited the wrestlers for the same," he tweeted on Wednesday.
The wrestlers stated that they were dissatisfied with the meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and that they would plan further action.
It is the second round of talks between the government and the wrestlers, who met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday night.
On late June 3, a delegation of wrestlers and coaches met with Home Minister Amit Shah at his official residence.
"In the meeting, which lasted around two hours, the wrestlers pressed for timely action and demanded an unbiased investigation, to which the Home Minister told them to trust the process of investigation, which is still ongoing, and the law shall take its course," media reports said.
Meanwhile, Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, and Bajrang Punia, who have been leading the protest against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh have returned to work for the Railways.
Olympians Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, and Vinesh Phogat have been protesting since the beginning of this year to demand that the WFI chief be removed and arrested over allegations of sexual harassment.
The Delhi Police have filed ten complaints and two FIRs against WFI President Brij Bhusan Singh.
The first FIR was filed in response to allegations made by a minor and was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, while the second FIR was filed in response to outraging modesty.
