Two brothers arrested near Indo-Pak border in Amritsar with 2.5 kg IED; police foil ISI-linked terror plot
The accused, identified as Yuvraj and Akashdeep, attempted to flee but were quickly chased down and detained
PTC Web Desk: In a major security breakthrough, the Amritsar Rural Police late Tuesday evening arrested two brothers near the India-Pakistan border and recovered an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing nearly 2.5 kg. The operation was carried out following a high-priority intelligence alert warning of renewed attempts by Pakistan’s ISI to push explosives into Indian territory after the recent blast in Delhi.
According to officials, security agencies had shared specific inputs suggesting that ISI-backed operatives were planning to retrieve explosive material hidden in the border belt. Acting on the alert, the Amritsar Rural Police intensified patrolling and set up additional checkpoints across the sensitive zones of Ramdas, Ajnala and Gharinda.
During the enhanced security checks late Tuesday, the police received information that two suspected operatives were heading on a motorcycle to pick up an IED concealed near the border. Despite heavy fog, a police team spotted the suspicious bike near Gharinda and signaled it to stop. The riders, identified as Yuvraj and Akashdeep, attempted to flee but were quickly chased down and detained.
A search of their bag led to the recovery of the explosive device, confirming the intelligence tip-off. Both accused are now under interrogation, with the police working to identify other members of the suspected terror module.
