Written by  Joshi -- August 31st 2018 11:12 PM

Indian hopes of a medal in women's singles of table tennis evaporated  as Commonwealth Games champion Manika Batra lost her pre quarter final match to Marya Wang of China in the 18th Asian Games on Friday.

With her defeat and also defeats of two remaining men's singles participants - Achanta Sharath Kamal and Gyanasekaran Sathiya - Indian challenge ended in the Games.
India won two bronze medals in table tennis - men's team event and mixed doubles. Manika Batra and Achanta Sharath Kamal had won the mixed doubles bronze.
India could not do much in women's team event as well as women singles because of much tougher competition here than what it experienced inthe Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Still India managed two bronze medals here.
Indian challenge in judo also ended with defeats of Avtar Singh (90kg) and Rajwinder Kaur (78 kg). India remained medalless in judo.
